Site Redesign

As you may well have noticed Comic Book Daily has undergone a site redesign.  The old design was simple and clean with the well-heeled look of a news blog.  Unfortunately as we bolted more and more features onto the design it became less elegant and more…cludgy.

I took over the content editor position in October 2010: that entailed reading and editing every post on CBD along with looking after the WordPress back end of the site.  After a few weeks I knew we needed to make significant changes, which I did implement through WordPress plugins.

Things were operating as I wanted but the look just wasn’t right.  We needed to visually differentiate CBD from other comic sites so I went on the look for a new theme.  More than that I wanted a great WordPress framework that would flesh out the back end while presenting a gorgeous front end look.  As with all things in life compromise was required: I knew TheStyle from Elegant Themes was the look for us but the back end framework didn’t do everything I wanted.

We’ve been live with the new look since yesterday and I’ve made about a dozen changes so far.  Please let us know what you think of the new design in the comments below, along with any tweaks you’d like to see.

Here’s one new feature: an author box with photo.
