DC 1:200 Variants

This came across my email in DC’s weekly retailer newsletter.  Is anyone actively collecting variant covers?

With anticipation for DC Comics’ New 52 continuing to build, DC Comics announces new 1:200 black and white variants as add-ons to the five titles listed below.

These titles, all solicited in the July Previews, now feature variant editions as follows:

  • THE FLASH #1 1:200 BLACK AND WHITE VARIANT EDITION (MAY118219), featuring art by Francis Manapul.
  • THE FLASH #1 VARIANT EDITION (JUL110194), featuring art by Ivan Reis and Tim Townsend. The quantity of this variant you may order will be determined by your lowest ordered DC Universe comic book on FOC in the same week.
  • ACTION COMICS #1 1:200 BLACK AND WHITE VARIANT EDITION (MAY118220), featuring art by Rags Morales.
  • ACTION COMICS #1 VARIANT EDITION (JUL110202), featuring art by Jim Lee and Scott Williams. The quantity of this variant you may order will be determined by your lowest ordered DC Universe comic book on FOC in the same week.
  • BATMAN #1 1:200 BLACK AND WHITE VARIANT EDITION (MAY118221), featuring art by Greg Capullo

These things are cash grabs that have a shelf life of about two weeks.  Bad enough most of the DC relaunch titles have covers by artists who aren’t doing the interior art.  Bad enough there are variant covers of a lot of these books.  Now we have black and white variant covers.  Wow.

I think we just found our next Retailer Q topic.  Sorry, couldn’t locate an image for any of these variants so I added my favourite relaunch cover instead, one that isn’t on the list above.
