Return of the Spinner Rack

I came across an interesting article recently that I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention. The article is by Adam Barnhardt over at Comicbook.com:

http://comicbook.com/2017/07/21/alterna-comics-newsstand/

I found this quite interesting and would be interested in hearing the thoughts of the readers of this column as to the benefits or liabilities of this venture.

Now I am not familiar with any of these titles that Alterna Comics publishes but I will check it out.

My immediate thought is that it looks like a way to get comics out in front of a new audience, which as we know, right now the numbers are going in the wrong direction. The cost will be more affordable for the casual comic buyer and the staggered by three months distribution of the books, should drive these new readers into our favorite comic shops when they realize that they can get the next issues there before the staggered news stand schedule allows!

Am I missing something here?

Let me know. Continued Happy Collecting!

Not an easy, one a brave move and good on them for giving it a go. A lot of info that I receive talks of retail stores closing, foot traffic down, ecommerce the way to go. So challenging times for retail. Maybe try putting them in Railway station, bus station, airport shops as well where people still have to walk through if they can?

Good call Terrence.I wish them all the best as well.I did pick up a copy of “The Chair” which is #1 of a 4 issue mini series, since writing this article.$1.00 cover price, printed on news print and really an interesting enough tale about an innocent man on death row waiting for the Chair. It had more story than most of the new comics I have read lately and at a $1.00 a pop I will check out the remaining 3 issues and still have only what it costs for one issue of Marvel or DC invested in giving it a go.
It would be nice to see an influx of new readers into the comic market.Time will tell!
