This weekend, the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, Ontario played host to Darwyn Cooke and his fabulous artwork as they put on an art show entitled Darwyn Cooke: Noir and Beyond and the ComicBookDaily crew stopped on by to admire the art of one of Canada’s greatest artists.
Peter managed snag a quick interview with Darwyn himself and we’ll have that up for you guys as soon as possible. In the meantime, enjoy some of the pictures of the event and we’ll fill in the blanks as we come to them!
- The gallery showing took place on the second floor of the Gladstone Hotel. A simple sign directed visitors up the winding stairs to the exhibit.
- I can’t remember what book this is from, but it’s a cool looking cover nonetheless.
- The gallery wing dedicated to Darwyn’s work on the New Frontier.
- Another great piece for sale at the show. You will have no idea how close David was to shelling out the 500 for this piece. The only thing that saved him was the fact that he couldn’t take the art off the wall that night to go home with him.
- A fantastic Catwoman painting by Darwyn. Asking price? 500 Canadian. A steal!
- A great look at the storyboarding technique by Darwyn.
- Cool New Frontier pin-up, alas it wasn’t for sale either.
- Pete and Darwyn Cooke chilling with each other. Pete’s nodding his head so fast in agreement that his head became a blur and had nothing to do with David’s photography skills.
- The showing was divided into three distinct wings. There was the Parker Wing, a new Frontier Wing and a misc wing. Unfortunately, none of the Parker pieces were for sale. They had a much darker blue hue to them than the pages of the book show.
- Darwyn does some work on the Jonah Hex series from time to time. Look for issue 50 to be a giant oversized issue with interiors by Darwyn.
- Let’s close this day off with the original art for the Absolute Edition cover. Not for sale though.
Well, we hope you enjoyed the brief look at the show. Stay tuned for Pete’s interview with Darwyn where we talk Parker, future projects and more. P.S Darwyn might be doing a pin-up calendar in the future.
