Day 27 – New Adventure Comics #27, Artist – Creig Flessel.
I think this is my 1st Frazetta pick. How can you have posts about great covers and have no Frazettas! This one has always been one of my favorites and brings to mind Conan versus the Frost Giants, kind of like a still from a moving picture.
I’m glad to have a copy of this one in my PC.
No surprise today. One of my heretical statements is that I am not a huge Frazetta fan, but this one really works for me. IMHO the black framing really adds class.
I continue to try to stay a few days ahead but I haven’t made my week goal – maybe another day later tonight? There were probably ten #33s that I had to choose from, and other than the obvious winner (Mr. S again) it was difficult. As usual my selection values creativity over artistic prowess:

My feeling about the notorious Crime Does Not Pay is similar to that about the head-burning Brio – shock value, but otherwise not great.
A a systems check I’m going to try to stay away from successive similar/same title/artist as much as I can. I’m doing a poor job of trying to leave the Golden Age but these are the covers with the most impact and I’m really enjoying revisiting and sometimes rediscovering them.
