Covered 365: Day 81

Teen Age Love #82 – Charlton Comics, February 1972 – Artist: Torre Riposo.

I can honestly say Day 81 is the 1st day that I had difficulty picking a cover. I didn’t want to cheat and pick Ghost Rider because I think the cover is just OK, I liked Strange Tales but I just did Kirby, Captain Marvel Adventures was good but not great. I kept coming back to Teen Age Love, I like the inks and I love the effect of the sequential art.

A great comic book cover matching each day of the year, 1 through 365. Please chime in with your favourite corresponding cover, from any era.

Great cover , Walter ! I’ve got to track one down . there are 2 copies on ebay , low grade , but , too much for shipping ! my local dealer has about 10 long boxes of love comics at his home , so hopefully he’ll have a copy !

No argument although it wasn’t on my list. I only had a few picks for #81, but I probably spent the most time looking at this one before I decided to not include it. It is a really original composition for a cover, _really_ tells the story (one of my key criteria for a great cover) – so much so that you might not need to read the story inside…, the art is very high quality especially for a Charlton, and the peculiar coloring really works. The free poster of Susan Dey should have cemented it for me, but it was just too busy for me to choose. No question a high grade copy of this one would be a real find.

For #82 it’s looking up again. We are into the Hughes Catwoman run now, so it’s going to be hard for me to leave these out, and I’m going to have to make that my top pick for this issue number. My others:

Daredevil
Fantastic Four
Marvel Mystery
Mystery in Space
Young Love

Just because I love the old pre hero Marvel Monster books my choice for 81 is either Strange Tales 81 or Journey into Mystery 81 …… both I am yet to possess!

Doesn’t Jonnie Love look like a young Walter Durajlija ? Might be worth a buy to see what secrets it holds. Just saying
