Legendary artist Frank Frazetta passed away early this week. I thought we’d take a look at whether the market has rushed to sell some of Mr. Frazetta’s comic book work.
Vampirella #1, Warren Publishing (9/69) Graded by CGC at 8.0 Signature Series (Frank Frazetta). Sorry but I cannot make out the page quality on the pictures and it is not noted on the post. This copy sold for $1150.00 via the best offer option on eBay on May 12th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 8.0 is $312.00. Vampirella #1s are not as easy to sell as one might think. Looks like someone full of sentiment (and it may have been genuine) jumped in head first. Advantage goes to seller.
Note: There is another CGC 8.0 Signature Series (Frank Frazetta) copy of Vampirella #1 posted on eBay at the time of this post. It has a Buy it Now option at $1999.99. No takers yet.
Vampirella #1, Warren Publishing (9/69) Graded by CGC at 7.0 with Off White to White pages did not sell for $260.00 on eBay, the auction ended on May 9th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 7.0 is $216.00. As I said on the last example, Vampirella #1s are not easy sells. This copy was offered at about a 20% premium over guide. Frazetta passed away the day after this auction ended. Call me crazy but I think if the seller relisted at $275 it would most likely sell.
Creepy #7, Warren Publishing (2/66) Graded by CGC at 8.0 with Off White to White pages sold for $16.95 eBay on May 5th. Overstreet price guide value for this comic at 8.0 is $30.00. First off, this was a steal. The cover is one of the better ones in the early Creepy run. Someone would have had to pay much more to slab their nice copy. This is like getting a discount at CGC AND getting a great Frazetta cover Creepy #7 for FREE! Advantage goes to buyer.
Very disappointing activity around Mr. Frazetta’s work a full 4 days after his passing.
