Busy Weekend

Talk about busy, I was working Free Comic Book Day on Saturday and I was emersed in family stuff for our Easter festivities on Sunday. Too much food, to much drink, too much desserts all lead to not enough ambition on Sunday night to throw up a post.

I want to start by inviting everyone to tune into Ivan Kocmarek’s upcoming Wordfest live stream, this Thursday May 9th at 7:00 pm EDT Ivan will be a part of a live stream about the Canadian World War II superheroes. The talk will be live in front of an audience at the TAP Gallery in London, ON. Here is the link;

Big B Comics Hamilton was the place to be this past Saturday May the 4th, we hosted Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) and I’m happy to report that the event was a big success. Its all about foot traffic on FCBD, foot traffic and new faces, we had plenty of both thanks to some nice weather and thanks to guest artists Richard Comely, Vaughn Joseph and Vince Marchesano and also thanks to a pretty good line up of free comics. I have to thank the Big B crew, they were warriors, they were titans, they were great hosts.

The line formed early, a few years back we hired a magician to keep the people in the lines entertained, this year we skimped out and went with a comedian, me!

Just a few more minutes folks

I had to use my best material early as things got congested around the FCBD table right off the hop.

The place filled up quick

Luckily no distractions were needed out in the tent, the bargain bins were busy throughout the day.

The bargain bins in the Tent were very busy

A guy actually walked up with stuff to sell on FCBD, he asked me if he should come back on a less busy day and I said heck no, lets see what you have. Check out this Mystic #57, the famous Ant Man prototype issue, the book is in great shape too and its headed to our weekly icecollectibles eBay auction.

Here’s the splash page, “Trapped in the Ant Hill”. Timing is everything and I think 1957 was just too early for the Atlas/Marvel revolution. I’m not sure but I think Flash was the only resurrected character, Showcase #22 with Green Lantern was 1959.

Now here’s good ad placement, its like a one stop shopping page for that young buck looking to attract girls. The top half of the page will arm you looking strong and muscular while the bottom half of the page will arm you with the language of love. The kid that sent away for both must have turned into the magnet for the ladies.

Our latest weekly icecollectibles eBay auction closed this past Sunday. I was watching the CGC 4.5 Amazing Spider-Man #2 with interest, there was an April sale of $2590 so I was pleased with the $2,500 finish for our copy, we held the line so to speak. Is it me or are the Copper Age books coming back to life? X-Men #160 looks well above its February/March numbers as does X-Men #155.

  1. Congratulations on a successful weekend! Not only all the people but kids there too! I am clenching my teeth as I watch my pallet making its way to Portugal with the few boxes of comics I have left amongst our other stuff. 4 more days in the US.

  2. Just an update… while I am still awaiting my pallet of goods ( for a few more weeks) we made it to Portugal!

  3. Great news Gerald, I have two Portuguese neighbors, beautiful people.
