Linda Carter, Student Nurse #1, September 1961

linda carterLinda Carter, Student Nurse #1 was published in September 1961, just 2 short months before Fantastic Four #1 hit the stands. Almost a decade later Marvel launched Night Nurse, a title that lasted four issues from (Nov. 1972 to April 1973). The title revolved around three female roommates who worked the night shift at the fictional Metropolitan General Hospital in New York. One of the nurses was Linda Carter.

Fast forward 3 plus decades and we see the Night Nurse appearing in the Brian Michael Bendis run of Daredevil. Shortly after she was seen caring for Luke Cage and Iron Fist. She helped Captain America’s wounded during Civil War and she also appeared prominently in the 2006/07 Doc Strange mini-series The Oath.

Though there has never been an official connection between today’s Night Nurse and Linda Carter, Student Nurse, it has been revealed that Night Nurse is the Linda Carter Night Nurse of the 1970s (see New Avengers #34, Nov. 2007 Stan).

Night Nurse is a great character and can be used in so many ways in the Marvel U. Look for her to continue appearing in big Marvel stories and look for her to eventually be tied to the 1961 Linda Carter, Student Nurse.

The Overstreet Price Guide shows a $41/$66/$90 split at the 8.0/9.0/9.2 grades.

Strengths that make this comic book a good long term investment are:

– A connection will eventually be made to today’s Night Nurse

-The 1972 Night Nurse #1 has a Overstreet guide value of $185 in the 9.2 grade

– Great female non hero character with a Silver Age, Bronze Age and Modern Age history

– Collectors will have to draw the line back to this issue
