Moon Knight is one of those fringe characters that always has the potential for unique and engaging stories. A new version has emerged in Moon Knight By Brian Michael Bendis & Alex Maleev Volume 1. Moon Knight is back, like you’ve never — and we mean NEVER — seen him...

I’m a sucker for Marvel World War II material and I love Chris Samnee’s work so picking up Captain America & Bucky: The Life Story Of Bucky Barnes was a given. Think you know the story of Cap and Bucky’s origins? Well, think again. The secret story of the...

Points of interest from the comics interweb; I sort the chaff so you get the wheat. I'm sticking with Chaff Smasher' perhaps someone can create an image for me.

G.I. Joe, A real American Hero #21, Marvel Comics, March 1984 It seems that I keep neglecting the 1980s! My last 80s post was over 20 Spotlights ago!! The 80s are a much maligned decade when it comes to collectible comics. Hardcore collecting and speculating ran rampant and accelerated...

British artist Bryan Hitch leaves Marvel after a solid decade, producing some of the industry’s best-loved work AND completing his piece in Marvel’s ”foundation of 2012″ (with Bendis), Ultron War, Hitch confirmed on Twitter… “my end is done!”. Hitch began his...
52Q | #60: Sight Unseen, Buying Blind?

It's a '90s flashback: Marvel is poly bagging all their comics that include a digital code. Plus they shrink wrap every hardcover, with DC joining in for books over $50. This week's 52Q (#60): do you buy poly bagged comics or shrink wrapped books? Is it important to you to have a look through a comic before buying? Does that matter anymore with online previews?

Here’s one for the “just in case you hadn’t heard” category: Marvel makes four digital comics available for free every Monday for one week. It only works in a browser and requires Flash 10 but it’s a wonderful way to read random Marvel comics for...
52Q | #56: Creators, Deadlines and Consistency

DC's new program of keeping books on schedule by getting books done well ahead of publication and shifting creative teams seems to be working. Of course it also means writers and artists are being juggled around to keep things flowing. Marvel's approach seems to have artists taking turns, giving readers up to six artists in a six issue stretch. This week's 52Q: do you stick to a book when it has multiple creators or do you cherry pick issues based on your favourites? Would you rather see a small publishing delay for creator consistency?

Oh look, a Batman cover from Francesco Francavilla in that retro pulp style of his. Very nice. What’s that? It’s a Black Panther cover for issue 529? Wow: DC, get that lawyer patrol on the case. And why is Black Panther still using Daredevil’s issue...
Omnibus Ridiculousness

The new Fantastic Four by John Byrne Omnibus is out and it’s ridiculously heavy. Amazon does a nice job of listing book specs and lets us know this book is 7.3 pounds and 2.5 inches thick. Or to put it another way, unmanageable. Marvel seems to have started the omnibus craze and is...

Marvel released a FAQ for retailers, which is far more telling: let me see if I can sum this up. For the same cover price Marvel will be selling a print comic and a digital comic. The retailer will receive their usual discount on the print comic and will receive $0.50 credit for every digital copy redeemed. Marvel is basically saying that not only does the digital copy hold no value, they're paying to get it out there.

If Captain Britain vanished from the red pages of Marvel without a trace, would anyone (Stateside) care? Or even notice?! With Disney’s (fairly) recent decision that “all Marvel Superheroes must originate in the United States” we may well see that happen very soon – and only...

Unfortunately Jim Steranko is a name fading from the collective comic book memory, to its detriment. Exploding onto the comics scene in the late 1960s and then quickly leaving the medium, he stands out as a master of page layout, design and motion.
